Della Doucet won the Vintage Theatre’s new play competition last fall and received its world premiere on Friday, August 23. The show opened the theater’s 2024-25 season and plays through September 22.

The bittersweet romantic comedy follows the exploits of a Louisiana-born Cajun who flees her marriage on a Southern military base to explore the gritty New York of the early 1980s. Determined not to repeat past mistakes, Della finds herself drawn to the East Village art scene—and to the wrong man.

Directed by Paul Jaquith, the cast of Della Doucet includes Johanna Jaquith, Abid Hassan, Corinne Landy, Wade Livingston, Linda Swanson Brown, and Mike Thomas Moran.

Although this play was begun in Los Angeles, it was finished in Denver. A shout-out to Melissa McCarl at Lighthouse Writers who offers so much support to Denver playwrights. And many thanks to the wonderful people at Vintage Theatre who greet new work with such enthusiasm.
